Literary Love: Jane Eyre

Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre has always been one of my favorite classics: a resourceful heroine who won't compromise herself, a deep love with seemingly-impossible obstacles, and the poetic language ... it was a pleasure despite having to pick it apart in high school with essays and quizzes. Here's a fav quote:

This is probably going to be my anniversary card for Mr. Yay :) Don't tell him!

Full-size version available in the gallery.

Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own;
in pain and sickness it would still be dear.
~Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.

Favorite Things: Desserts!

I saved the sweetest Favorite Things print for the end of the week, because I know we can all use a sugar rush to slide us into the weekend :)

Available as a print and (now but not forever) a digital download.

I need some brownies, stat! And a cinnamon roll. And a cupcake. Help me decide!

Favorite Things: Cheese!

You know the song from The Sound of Music that goes, "These are a few of my favorite things"? I was humming that the other day and thinking of MY favorite things, and ... the list included a lot of cheeses.

I'm a cheeseaholic. I think the cheese board is an art form. My very favorite cheese is cheddar so sharp it'll cut you, but I'm a fan of most of them, even the smellier ones (if you think you don't like blue cheese, try it with a fruit jam! SOGOOD)

Anyway, here's to all you other cheese-lovers out there :)

Available as a print and (now but not forever) a digital download.

What's your favorite cheese??

Love and Austen

Oh wow, Valentine's Day is near! It sort of crept up on us this year. Confession: I have to admit I don't go nuts over this holiday. Sure, it's a time to celebrate love, which: yay!

Also yay: Jane Austen's romantic words, which inspired this print:

This and other romantic prints can be found in my store and (right now, but not forever) as a digital download on Etsy.

But not yay (for me, at least): trying to go out to dinner on the same night everyone else is going out to dinner, and restaurants who have "special" Valentine's Day menus which usually are just not as good as their normal menus, but they're overwhelmed by the masses of lovey-dovey diners, so what can you do?

Well, you can stay in - that's what Mr. Yay and I do :) We will probably order Thai food from our favorite place, crack a bottle of wine, and watch our current Netflix show (Breaking Bad. I know, we're behind the times!)

This Valentine's Day activity also happens to be something we do every week. It's our favorite date, relaxing in the comfort of our own home, laughing and snuggling together over great food and great tv. We'll save the fancy duds and night out on the town for next week!

What are you up to for the most romantic day of February? Braving the other lovebirds at a restaurant? Exchanging gifts? Writing love letters?

It's all good. But I recommend the Thai food!
